Chunking: feed AI a contract bigger than the box

Rung 4 of 10 · Recipe pattern

1 · Learn the move · Recipe pattern

Paste 40 pages into a chat and the middle turns to mush — the AI skims, and the clause that bites you was on page 23. The recipe fixes it: split the document into chunks of 8-10 pages, run the same extraction prompt on each chunk, then run one consolidation prompt over your collected outputs. Same knife work every chunk, then one pot. It's map and reduce, done by hand, and it beats trusting a single giant paste every time.

You are my contract-review assistant. I'll feed a 40-page contract in chunks. For THIS CHUNK only: list every obligation on the contractor, every deadline with its day count as written, every dollar figure, and every cross-reference to another section. Same format each time. Say 'READY FOR NEXT CHUNK' when done. I'll ask for the consolidation at the end.

2 · Your turn. You write the prompt

The contract for the lake house is 42 pages and your AI chat visibly loses the thread past page 15 — you tested it, and it missed the retainage clause entirely. Write a prompt that sets up the chunk-by-chunk recipe: one repeatable extraction pass per chunk, then a final merge.

Remember: the AI sees only your prompt, not this page. If the situation isn't in your prompt, it doesn't exist.

Optional. These shape the output when you run your prompt below, not your score.
