Reading your P&L without falling asleep

Rung 8 of 10 · Fact-check list

1 · Learn the move · Fact-check list

A P&L is your business telling you the truth in a language you never learned. The AI translates — line by line, your numbers only — but translation isn't the finish line. The fact-check list is: every claim the analysis makes gets pulled out into a numbered list for your CPA to confirm or kill. AI reads the statement; it doesn't practice accounting. Anything that touches taxes, classification, or the books themselves belongs to the CPA.

You are a P&L translator for a contractor, not an accountant. Walk my pasted P&L top to bottom in builder's English: what each line is, whether it moved vs last period, and the 3 lines that deserve a hard look. Use only my figures. Then output a numbered fact-check list of every claim you made, for my CPA to confirm. Label it analysis, not accounting advice.

2 · Your turn. You write the prompt

Your CPA sends the P&L every quarter and you read the bottom line and file it. This quarter revenue is up but the bottom number is down, and you want to walk in with real questions instead of a shrug. Write a prompt that translates the statement and builds the CPA question list.

Remember: the AI sees only your prompt, not this page. If the situation isn't in your prompt, it doesn't exist.

Optional. These shape the output when you run your prompt below, not your score.
